It was the site of the Pharos (lighthouse), one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and the legendary Library of Alexandria and was once the most vital cultural centre of the ancient world. Our Egyptologist tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in a private air-conditioned vehicle to visit one of the most influent cities in ancient time and the capital of Egypt for nearly 970 years, Alexandria. It takes around two hours and half to reach the city (mid-way refresh stop is available) once you get there you will start the visit of the famous roman rock-cut catacombs of Kom Al-Shokafa where merge of pharaonic and Greco-Roman art took place on its reliefs. Few minutes away you will enjoy seeing -from outside- the largest monolithic pillar ever erected in ancient world; Pompey’s Pillar (298-302 AD) then proceed to visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria with its 16 rows of marble seats, many of them still remain its Latin seat number. Then drive to visit the new library of Alexandria known as Bibliotheca Alexandria; the largest lecture space all over the world built in 2002 near the original site of the ancient library. End your tour with the visit of the 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean Sea coast; Qaitbay Citadel (1477 AD) erected on the exact site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Finally, enjoy a fresh seafood lunch by the Mediterranean Sea near the old fishing harbour. After lunch; you will be transferred back to your hotel.
